Hot damn this is good. Sex on turntables good. Unfortunately there is only a 2006 collaborative album entitled ‘Magnificent City’ to show from this pair. Choice favorites have to be ‘All for U’ for vibrant brassy trumpets and ‘Mooore’ for a ludicrously luxuriant bass line. Turn your speakers up to 10 and feel your eardrums shudder.

  3. Star Wars geek or not. This should brighten your day.

  4. Scroobius Pip is one of the UK’s best spoken word artists.  Having collaborated with Dan Le Sac for two great albums (Angles and The Logic Of Chance), his stocks are pretty high at the moment.  Check out this great video of him performing Magician’s Assistant without the backing track. 5. Released in 2009, this is a so called ‘children’s’ film that should be spoken about more. It is beautifully shot and achingly accurate to Roald Dahl’s original masterpiece. The debonair and cunning Mr. Fox wreaks ingenious havoc against Boggis, Bunce and Bean. Go watch.

  6. wordsareimportant: What I Loved

A book that can make you laugh, cry and scared all in the space of a few hundred pages is something special. Siri Hustvedt’s What I Loved falls into this category.

I did not expect to enjoy it.

In particular I did not like reading the first fifty pages.

I did not expect to sit and read, motionless, for two straight hours, in utter silence, totally absorbed in the grubby second-hand pages, leafed through by countless other readers.

And I certainly won’t try and summarise the plot for you. But I will suggest that you find yourself a copy and start reading.

I can now count this in the short list of books that have made me cry. The other is Goodnight Mr Tom.

  7. Charles Bradley’s funk infused soul is fantastic; kinda like a stripped out James Brown.  This is his 2010 release ‘The World (Is Going Up In Flames)’, with his album due out on January 25th.  One to look out for from the legendary Daptone label.

  8. Coffee keeps us going. It’s the premium unleaded to our [generic high-performance roadster]. Thus, when we see something like this, well, its hardly worth talking about, you’d better watch it, its coffee porn

  9. soundslikesex: Eli ‘Paperboy’ Reed

Do you like soul? Well we do, especially when its very good. Pin your ears back and listen to Eli ‘Paperboy’ Reed. We could pick out just one track for your delectation but they’re all so damn fine you should probably listen to all of them. Think along the lines of Aloe Blacc but with a more staccato, big band backing. Brilliant, just brilliant. He certainly doesn’t sound like a young white fellow from Boston.

  10. keepaneyeon: me in my place

It’s a simple concept, this. me in my place is a photoblog, featuring women photographed in their homes.  Basically, a girl who wants to be photographed in beautiful style, in the comfort of their natural habitat, needs only to send an email featuring a photo of themselves and they’ll end up with a photoshoot.  The photographs are as wonderful as the girls and it’s regularly updated.  It’s also neither slutty or too hot for work, so lunch breaks could be greatly improved.

  11. streetcornerfauna showcases culture at large (and small). It will be scrounging the dirtiest barrels and swishing around the smoothest cafes searching for good stuff to share with you guys. Why not come see what the fuss is about?
